Interim Director of Emergency management - Scott Canaday

Scott Canaday is a former resident of Indiana .  Scott is a graduate of Vincennes University where he earned an Associates Degree in Aviation Maintenance; he continued his education at Purdue University by earning a Bachelor of Science in Aeronautical Technology and Electronics.  After a short career in aviation, Scott pursued his childhood dream of becoming a firefighter, first serving as a volunteer for Wayne Township (’94-’97) and Fishers Fire Department (’95-’97).  Scott became a career firefighter for Fishers Fire Department in 1997 and was promoted to lieutenant in 2000.  Also in 2000 Scott joined the Pendleton Volunteer Fire Department, proudly serving his hometown for 9 years in various roles including volunteer firefighter, emergency medical technician, training officer, and records manager.  Madison County Emergency Management allowed Scott to volunteer as a Haz-Mat team member and chief fire investigator for the county.  In addition to countless hours of training, Scott earned a Master’s Degree in Fire Service Leadership from Grand Canyon University in 2007.  In December 2008, Scott accepted the position, Emergency Planner, with the Highlands County Emergency Operations Center .  He was no stranger to the Highlands County area.  Scott and his wife Andi have been vacationing in the Lake Placid area for nearly 20 years.  Scott even operated one of the engines during the “Winn Dixie” fire in Lake Placid in August of 2004.  Scott, his wife, and two sons live in Lake Placid..

Emergency Management Coordinator - Ben Henley

Ben Henley has served in several roles here within Highlands County Emergency Operations, including 911 Coordinator, Intergovernmental Radio Coordinator, and Chief Informational Officer for Public Safety.  Ben's current roll is Emergency Management Coordinator since 2006. He is also a member of our Hazmat team and Light Technical Rescue Team.

Emergency Operations Specialist – Carol Y. West

Carol Y. West, Emergency Operations Specialist.  I’ve been employed with the county for 2 years.  I was born in Long Island , New York .  I served on active duty in the United States Air Force for 8 years and I’m currently a Reservist in the Air Force Reserves, stationed out of MacDill AFB, in Tampa .  I have 2 sons, Dwayne and Sheldon.

Emergency Management Secretary - Erin Grecken

Erin Gercken was born and raised in Florida . She is a graduate of Sebring High, where she played Varsity Soccer and was in the prestigious SHS choir. Erin has her Associate in Arts degree from South Florida Community College and was involved in the colleges Spirit Team.  Erin still stays active by running and enjoys being in the outdoors, as well as spending time with her family.

Erin began her career with Highlands County Emergency Management in 2007. She has taken numerous courses to prepare her for tasks associated to storms and disaster situations.
